Shiraito Falls

(Source : pixta)
Known as Shiraito Falls, the name "shiraito" means "waterfall of thin strings." It is thus called because the water looks like thin strings when it falls into the plunge basin. There are many waterfalls named "Shiraito no taki" or Shiraito Falls in Japan, but this is a unique waterfall in terms of size and form as it is gentle and calm. The water falls from a 3 m height and the wall itself is spread over 70 m. The water springs out between rocks from underground. Surprisingly, it is an artificial waterfall. You will be amazed by this view of a beautiful waterfall in a dense forest.

Falling water, rocks and moss

Water that looks like silk strings falls over rocks and moss. That's how Shiraito Falls is created. It looks so beautiful that you can watch the waterfall for a long time as it soothes your eyes and senses. Especially the crystal clear water against the green moss creates a mystical, breathtaking view.

Illumination on summer nights

Every year, one month in summer, Shiraito Falls are illuminated along with projection mapping (Karuizawa, Shiraito no taki Illusion). In 2015, it was registered as a "Night Illumination National Treasure." It became a popular spot now. The waterfalls look very different at night.

Waterfall and beautiful autumn leaves

In fall, the white strings of the waterfall look even more wonderful amidst the warmth of autumn leaves. There is a perfect spot dedicated for taking pictures, so make sure to click away to remember this moment. On sunny days, the sunlight shines on the waterfall and autumn leaves from 9 to 10 o'clock in the morning. This time of the day is less crowded and perfect for visiting in peace.
