This is the original restaurant for Chichibu-gun, Saitama’s famous gourmet dish, “Waraji Katsudon.” Waraji katsudon is a rice bowl with massive volume that gets its name from the 2 giant pieces of deep fried pork cutlet katsu toppings which are about as big as traditional “waraji,” sandals weaved of straw. Of the ten or so restaurants that serve waraji katsudon around Chichibu-gun, Yasudaya is the one with the longest history. The freshly deep fried pork cutlet katsu is dipped in a salty-sweet secret sauce and topped dynamically over rice making for a masterfully simple katsudon rice bowl earning Yasudaya an incredible amount of popularity that draws fans regularly from far and wide.
