The connection between the town of Kure and the Japanese Navy started in 1889 when the base of the former Japanese Navy was built here. After the navy munitions factory was built in 1903, the town developed as the biggest navy port in the East, as well as the town of Japan's greatest navy munitions factory. They started to build the battleship Yamato in the navy factory in Kure in 1937 and completed in 1940. Although it was the world's biggest battle ship at that time, it sunk after the attack. It still lies 345 meters deep in the sea off the coast of Kagoshima.

The main exhibition in Yamato Hiroba is a one-tenth scale model of the battleship Yamato. The amazing model was reconstructed closely based on the information of the original design drawing and videos. You can have your picture taken with the battleship Yamato made into a booklet.

Large Objects Exhibition Room has exhibitions of the real aircraft of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero sixty two type, also known as "the zero fighter," the prototype of "Kaiten" type ten, cannonballs actually used for Yamato and the battleship Mutsu. The technology used to construct these are developed into space rocket manufacturing technology today.

The exhibition room on the third floor is where you can feel and learn about the shipbuilding technology. It is a popular corner with unique activities and science shows such as "challenge navi" where you can experience driving a ferry and a high speed vessel, and "uki-uki doramukan" where you can learn about the system of buoyancy.
