Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center

(Source : pixta)
Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center is where you can observe a test run at the Yamanashi Maglev Test Track. The Center has two parts: Maglev Exhibition Hall, and Yamanashi Pavilion. Maglev Exhibition Hall is where visitors can learn about Maglev trains, the next generation vehicle focused on concepts to "learn,""see," and "experience." A Maglev train is displayed and you can experience riding in a miniature Maglev. On the other hand, Yamanashi Pavilion is where visitors can get sightseeing information of Yamanashi, Maglev-related goods, and local specialties. The test run of Maglev can be seen from either facilities.

Observe the Test Run of the Maglev

The greatest appeal of this facility is of course observing the test run of the Maglev train from above. The monitor in the lounge shows the location and the speed of the train and there will be an announcement when it gets near. The Maglev train runs through the test track at the speed of 500 km per hour. The speed is just unbelievable, it passes in a flash. Don't miss it.

Real Maglev Train

Soon after entering the facility, there is a real superconductive maglev train (test vehicle MLX01-2). Built in 1995, it made a record of the world's fastest train with a speed of 581 km per hour in 2003. The train is quite impressive and the best part, you can also enter the train and soak in the atmosphere.

Miniature Maglev

Visitors can learn how the Superconducting Maglev works at the "Experience Maglev Train"corner on the second floor of the Maglev Exhibition Hall. There is also a Miniature Maglev that visitors can ride on. The magnetic levitated run is quiet and very unique. Experience a ride that is totally different from the normal trains.

Diorama of a Town with Maglev

There is a large-scale diorama that depicts the image of Yamanashi after Linear Chuo Shinkansen line opens on the 3rd floor. It is rather spectacular. "Maglev Theater" is also a must see where you can feel how 500 km per hour is like by a video and simulated vibration.
