Tsuchiyu Onsen

Tsuchiyu Onsen is a historic onsen town surrounded by mountains, which opened over one thousand years ago. Ryokan and hotels are gathered along the Arakawa river and there are also many day-use bath facilities. Sakura and mizubasho (Asian skunk-cabbage) bloom in spring and in autumn, it is recommended to relax while looking at the beautiful changing leaves in the great nature. It is also the home of Tsuchiyu Kokeshi (Japanese traditional dolls) and these can be seen in various places across town.

Day-use Baths

As it is relatively close from Fukushima Station, it is perfect for bathing on a day trip. In most of the facilities, you can enter for 1,000 yen per adult. For those who wish to stay the night, there are of course many great ryokan as well.

Four Different Footbath Locations in Town

The onsen town of Tsuchiyu Onsen has four different foot baths: Omoino-yu, Kajikano-yu, Tsukino-yu Fujie, and Tsuchi Yukko. Most footbaths are free of charge. Dip in for a while whenever you feel like warming up a little.

Tsuchiya Kokeshi

Tsuchiya Kokeshi, which are made from locally growing cornus and maple trees, are one of Japan's top three kokeshi and are popular for their feminine silhouettes. There are currently 11 kokeshi craftsmen in Tsuchiya Onsen and the kokeshi festival is held every year in April. Kokeshi can be seen in different corners of the town.

Tsuchiyu Onsen is famous for konnyaku production, a health food with world-class popularity. Konnyaku Kobo Konnyaku-kan sells a rich variety of konnyaku products. Popular flavors are Dengaku-miso and soy sauce flavors.
