Dugong is the trademark attraction at Toba Aquarium. Raising a dugong is very difficult, and there are only a few aquariums worldwide where you can see them. They are loveable creatures that swim slowly at ease, and munch away pleasantly on seaweed. This is the only place in Japan that you can see one of them!

The sea lions perform extravagant jumps and hoop tricks, while the walrus oozes charm so close you can almost touch him, as part of the crowd pleasing performance shows. The penguins also take a once-daily walk, where visitors can get an up-close and personal look at these cute creatures!

The Coral Reef Diving area is modelled on a sea in the tropics with water tanks on all sides, the first of its kind worldwide. It is the largest manmade coral reef in the world, and is home to a sea turtle and tropical fish, as well as giving visitors the experience of actually being in the sea.

In this area, you can see frogs that bark just like dogs, something that you cannot see in any other aquarium in Japan, or giant isopods, related to the world’s largest woodlouse species, among over 50 strange and unusual living things on display.
