Tachigui Noodle Shop: Yoshinoya

Tachigui Noodle Shop: Yoshinoya

At just a 3 minutes' walk from the Shinsakae-machi Station is the standing counter noodle shop, Tachigui-men-dokoro Yoshinoya. Even though it’s located off the main street in a small nondescript alley, this restaurant boasts great popularity. Yoshinoya's reputation is built upon the massive volume of the dishes made by the head chef who loves offering big servings for reasonable prices. This restaurant has a wide variety of delicious dishes including soft and springy udon (thick Japanese wheat noodles), kishimen (noodles in flat strips) and soba (buckwheat noodles), as well as various kinds of rice bowls. The name of the restaurant is “Tachigui Men-dokoro” (“tachigui” refers to eating at a counter while standing) but you can rest assured knowing that there are also tables available where you can sit if you like!

Head chef’s specialty large servings

The dishes offered as "futsu" (normal size) by the head chef who loves big servings are actually twice the size you'd normally expect. You can also choose between the "chu-mori" (middle size) and the "o-mori" (large size); if you can’t finish the "chu-mori," you'll be charged double the price of the meal, and if you can't finish the "o-mori", you'll be charged 4 times the original price, so we recommend trying the "futsu" (normal size) the first time you go.

Popular specialty winter menu

Our No. 1 recommended dish is Nagoya’s own local specialty of miso nikomi udon (720 yen) available on the special winter menu. The signature broth which is made from Hatcho miso and the juices of seafood products like katsuo (bonito) looks super rich but actually has a very mellow taste.

Recommendation from the special summer menu

The miso nikomi udon in winter is fabulous, but on the special summer menu, you can find the hiya-koro curry udon (720 yen), another great recommendation. This is one miraculous dish that is sure to stir your appetite on hot summer days with its cold slippery noodles and spicy chilled curry sauce!
