Located at Shirakwa Yoshimi Jinja (shrine), Shirakawa Springs (Shirakawa Suigen) is selected as one of the 100 best spring waters in Japan. It is well known for its excellent quality and clarity. The temperature of the water is constant 14℃ or 57℉ throughout the year, and it has 60 tons (16,000 gallons) of water flowing per minute. The water is perfect for making tea as it is very mild. Anyone can take the water home, so many people visit here everyday for the wonderful water. The water contributes to the development of local industries as it is used for bottled water and making sake (Japanese rice wine).

One of the Most Famous Spring Waters in Kumamoto Prefecture

The spring has 60 tons (16,000 gallons) of water flowing per minute. Having an abundant supply of excellent water, Shirakawa Springs draws many visitors throughout the year. The site is surrounded by a cedar forest which keeps the temperature cool even in summer. It is easy to access as well being only 100 m from a parking lot. It is a great destination to avoid the summer heat.

Spring Water Gushes Out

This spring is a source of Shirakawa River that is designated as a class A river. The source water flows up the sand as it gushes out. You can hear a constant sound of flowing water while in the forest. The temperature of the water is 14℃ or 57℉ throughout the year. The water is soft and mild, and you can enjoy a refreshing natural taste. Bottles are sold in the area for visitors to take water home.
