Shinsekai is the old-fashioned busy district located in the south part of Osaka. The bright, showy atmosphere of the street is very unique to downtown Osaka. It is a busy street with a lot of tourists that looks like a theme park. Shinsekai has Osaka’s symbol, “Tsutenkaku” and many restaurants serve delicious local food such as Kushi-katsu (pork cutlets on skewers) and pufferfish. Restaurants are open from morning till night when they are the busiest. It is the best spot to experience the old-fashioned, nostalgic atmosphere of Osaka.

Osaka’s Symbol Tower: Tsutenkaku

The symbol tower of Osaka, “Tsutenkaku” is a 100-meter-tall observation tower which has a great view of Osaka city. Although it is not a tall tower, it is the essential figure that matches to the down-to-earth looks of streets in Osaka.

Shinsekai Tradition: Kushi-katsu

”Kushi-katsu” is the traditional food in Shinsekai. It is the best specialty food in Osaka, the dish composed of deep fried vegetables, fish and meet served with original sauce. There are many Kushi-katsu restaurants in the area including “Nihonichi no kushi-katsu Yokozuna.” Visit one of them to try tasty Kushi-katsu!

Shopping Street Loved by Neighbors “Janjan Yokocho”

Janjan Yokocho is a shopping street with a long history and has been around since the 1930s. A 180-meter-long street filled with nostalgic atmosphere of Osaka is where you can find various tasty dishes. This is also known as a kushi-katsu battleground.
