Shinsaibashi-suji Shotengai is a large shopping district that represents Shinsaibashi. In the shopping street spanning 580 meters from north to south, there are two large department stores and over 180 shops from fashion to gourmet and visitors can enjoy the lively sightseeing that is typical to Osaka.

Midosuji, the main road going through the center of Osaka from North to South, is a perfect area for exploring. There is an avenue of ginkgo trees that shows a beautiful view of golden leaves in autumn and during winter, you can take in the night of Osaka with the whole area illuminated.

One of Japan's biggest underground shopping area, Crysta Nagahori, connects to the three metro stations: Shinsaibashi Station, Nagahoribashi Station, and Yotsubashi Station. It is also accessible from Shinsaibashi-suji Shotengai. There are over 100 shops and it allows for relaxed shopping even on rainy days.

Heading west from Shinsaibashi and crossing Midosuji, you will reach an area nicknamed America-mura (America village). It is called "Amemura," an abbreviation for America-mura and is an area where American casual and vintage clothes shops are clustered around Sankaku Park, a triangle-shaped park with a large store, Big Step, as its center. It also has many clubs and is always lively with young people during day and night.

Horie is located further west from Amemura, a stylish spot that is often featured in magazines, with select shops, vintage stores and interior stores lined up. It has a relaxed atmosphere distinct from Shinsaibashi and Amemura and also has many cafes, perfect to do some shopping peacefully.

Osaka is a Mecca for cheap but delicious “B-class gourmet,” basically comfort or soul food. There are so many specialties like okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) grilled on a hot plate, takoyaki (octopus dumplings) and kushiyaki (fried skewers). This spot is densely populated with restaurants, perfect for taking a walk while you snack!

This original omu-rice (omelette-covered rice) restaurant patented the omu-rice in 1922. All 15 kinds of omu-rice have an elegant flavor. Prices are reasonable and not too high. Omu-rice using oysters, matsutake (Japanese mushroom) and crabs appear depending on the season. (Ham omu-rice 740 yen)
