Shinhotaka Ropeway

Shinhotake Ropeway connects Mt. Shinhotaka in the northern Alps of Okuhida from its foot to its peak. The only two-story gondola in Japan goes up along the mountain surface and allows you to thoroughly appreciate the surrounding mountain view. Nabedaira Kogen, located in between the first and the second ropeway, is a famous tourist spot where you can enjoy the highlights of Okuhida such as natural hot springs, local delicacies, and nature. Upon reaching the final stop, the summit observatory, a beautiful 360-degree panoramic view of the northern Alps awaits you.

Enjoy Seasonal Pleasures on the Only Two-Story Gondola in Japan

Shinhotaka Ropeway consists of the first ropeway connecting Shinhotake Onsen Station at the foot of the mountain with Nabedaira Kogen, and the second ropeway connecting Shirakaba Taira Station with Nishihotaka-guchi Station. In the second ropeway, you can enjoy the aerial trip on the first and only two-story gondola in Japan. Seasonal landscapes relaxes your mind such as the young vegetation in summer, changing leaves in autumn and the snow-covered view from winter through spring.

Summit Observatory

The mountain top observatory is located at immediate walking distance from the final stop Nishihotaka-guchi. As there are no obstacles, one can see the surrounding northern Alps in a 360-degree view. You will no doubt be mesmerized by the great view consisting of the 3000-meter level Nishihotaka and Nakadake, as well as active volcano Yakedake.

Nabedaira Kogen

Nabedaira Kogen in the middle is a tourist spot in which there is "Kamitakara no Yu" with a natural hot spring onsen and nature trails for exploring. You can enjoy local gourmet of Hida in the restaurant "Alps" located in the second floor of Shirakaba Taira Station. The most recommended is the Hida Beef Hoba Miso (magnolia leaves grilled with miso and onion) Steak menu. The subtle scent of the hoba leaf and miso goes perfectly well with the Hida beef.
