Great Scenery from the Main Hall
The vermilion-lacquered main hall is a symbol of Senko-ji. It is also called “red hall” for its color. It houses the statue of Senju Kanzeon Bosatsu which is opened to public only once in 33 years. The reason people are attracted to this place is the great view from the main hall that stands like it is jutting out from the slope of the mountain. It has a gorgeous view of Onomichi and the Seto Inland Sea.

Jewel Rock
The massive rock topped with a sphere rock. Legend says that there used to be a jewel on top of this rock and it illuminated the Seto Inland Sea. It has a sphere rock instead of a jewel today. There are many more unique rocks including the one that reflects light like a mirror in the premises of Senko-ji. You can experience training to climb up the big rock called chain mountain located behind the temple.

Cherry Blossoms in Senkoji Park
Senkoji Park has about 1,500 cherry trees and is a great viewing spot of cherry blossoms in spring. The red main hall and pink cherry blossoms create a superb scenery together. The illuminated cherry blossoms at night are also worth seeing. This is the place you should visit if you want to fully enjoy spring in Japan. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom in the beginning of April every year.
