The 37,000 hectare Oze National Park is also known as one of Japan's top plant habitats, where Asian skunk-cabbage and marigold bloom during spring, Nikko-kisuge in summer, and in autumn, the changing color of the wetland plants amuse the eyes of hikers.

Ozenuma swamp, located in between Gunma and Fukushima prefectures, is a lake that is believed to have formed from the eruption of Mt. Hiuchigatake and has a wooden walkway all around its shore. Around the Ozenuma swamp, you can observe many rare plant species and the most recommended time to visit is mid-June when the Asian skunk-cabbage is blooming or mid-September when the leaves start changing color.

The top of Mt. Shibutsu inside Oze National Park is a popular spot, from which you can overlook the entire Ozegahara area. From Hatomachi-toge, one of the trail entrances, to Mt. Shibutsu it is only about three hours to get to the top even at a slow pace, so you should definitely try climbing Mt. Shibutsu and see the gorgeous views. (Entry period to mountain is limited.)

At Oze National Park, you can stay at a mountain lodge, so you can spend the whole day exploring Ozegahara. Watching the sunset from Mt. Hiuchigatake, seeing the wetlands illuminated by the evening light and the night sky filled with stars is something you can only do if you spend the night here.
