Oarai Marine Tower

Oarai Marine Tower stands tall along the coast of Oarai, Ibaraki. This eye-catchy triangle shaped all-glass building is a scenic spot, from which you can see the Pacific ocean and the town of Oarai underneath, as well as beautiful night views from the 55-meter-high observation deck. During the night, there are wall paintings on display that light up once it gets dark and deliver an atmosphere that is completely different from the daytime. It has become a gathering place for locals and tourists, with local specialties being sold in the store on the ground floor and flea markets being held every month in front of the tower.

Great Panoramic View Overlooking the Pacific and Mt. Tsukuba

A 360-degree panorama will welcome you once you reach the 55-meter-high observation deck. You can see the Pacific ocean reaching all the way to the horizon and even Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tsukuba on a clear day. The recommended timing is within 20 minutes after sunset. See the beautiful mix of different colors from the blue sky to twilight and then the night sky.

Dolphin Fantasy

"Dolphin Fantasy" displayed in the observation deck is a wall painting that was inspired by Greek mythology related to dolphins. Once it gets dark, the painting glows and creates a mysterious atmosphere. The spot is also known as a romantic matchmaking spot, and it is said that if you tie a misanga bracelet to a nearby pole, your romantic wish will come true.

Aozora-ichi (Blue Sky Market)

A flea market is held in the plaza in front of the tower, every first and third Sunday of the month. Around 100 stands participate, selling clothes, antiques and handmade goods. Take a look after your visit to the tower and you may make an unexpected discovery?!
