Just as the name suggests, the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium specializes in penguins. Though the aquarium is of a relatively small scope, the exhibit revealing the penguins’ individual character is the main attraction. Located just inside the main entrance is a large tank where the penguins are free to roam and swim and rest as they please. One won’t easily get bored with this wonderful view into the world of the penguin.

At the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium, you can see penguins swimming not only in tanks, but also in the ocean in the “Nature Zone,” a concept thought up by the staff to let the penguins experience the nature of the real sea. Here, you can see penguins swimming freely about the ocean. In this area, you can also have the chance to meet and feed many of the wonderful penguins.

One may be surprised but kayak tours are also available at the aquarium. Breathe in the refreshing ocean breeze as you slowly paddle out into the Tachibana Bay which spreads out before the aquarium. Instructors are also available so beginners can rest easy!
