Nagamachi Bukeyashiki District

(Source : pixta)
Kanazawa was very rich as a castle town in the Edo period. Nagayamachi Bukeyashiki Ato is a town where samurai used to live and the appearance of the town of those days still remains. There is a Nagayamon that has bukemado, the lattice window, one of the features of samurai residence, and earthen wall on both sides of the narrow street. The narrow-paved path has many corners, T-shaped intersections and blind alleys like a maze. These shapes are for reducing enemy’s speed when a battle begins. Since people can take in the traditional and historical atmosphere of the old town, this is a famous sightseeing spot even among foreigners.
