Meigetsu-in is also called “hydrangea temple” where you can enjoy the best hydrangeas in Kamakura. Even a jizo-statue is holding a bowl of hydrangea in his hand. Many people visit here from both within Japan and abroad in hydrangea season.

Meigetsu-in has two gardens. One is Karesansui garden in front, and the other is an inner garden behind the main hall. The meticulously groomed Karesansui garden is spectacular. The inner garden is not usually opened to public. Although all you can get is the view from the round window of Hojo (abbot’s chamber), the view is breathtaking.

They have wintersweets and irises in winter, plums and cherry blossoms in spring, and red and yellow leaves in autumn. You can enjoy the varied scenery in each season.
