Magochatei

Magochatei serves lunch in Atami. This restaurant was opened by a long-established Japanese inn, Yamaki Ryokan. Magochatei offers regional cuisine known as Magocha, which were originally meals for fishermen on their fishing boats. It is a bowl of rice with soy-marinated tuna slices on top that is served with hot green tea poured over the bowl. Magochatei serves special Magocha, poured the original dashi (Japanese savory stock) instead of green tea. This stock is so tasty that you will feel like drinking it to the last drop!

Special Dashi Poured on Rice

It is no exaggeration to say that dashi is the essence of Magocha's flavor. The dashi, one of Magochatei's specialties, is made from Kombu (kelp) and Katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes). Using this dashi is the best way to bring out the flavor of tuna arranged on the rice. You'll never get tired of eating dishes with the pleasant savory taste of the dashi.

Best-selling Dish: Magochazuke

Magochazuke (1,500 yen) is one of Magochatei’s specialties. It is a bowl of rice with soy-marinated tuna slices on top that is served with hot green tea poured over the bowl. The color, texture, and flavor of the tuna gradually varies from being poured over by the hot dashi. You can enjoy tuna, ranging from medium-rare to well-done in one dish.

Calm Atmosphere Like Old Japanese House

Magochatei creates a calm atmosphere through its building, as if you were in an old Japanese house. You can feel its warmth when observing the wooden counter. Placing tables and chairs on tatami mats creates a Japanese-style atmosphere. This nostalgic atmosphere is perfect to enjoy the regional cuisine that has passed down through generations.
