”Lunch tour to experience Japanese traditional culture” offers an experience to cook rice using a traditional style of rice cooker called “kamado” which used to be used everywhere in Japan in the early 1900s. It is held in Yoshiki no Sato, an old house built 140 years ago. You can actually cook rice using a kamado and taste it with some dishes such as the one with Hida beef, a specialty of the Hida area and other local dishes. The old house creates the atmosphere of old days in Japan.

Cooking Experience Using Kamado in an Old House Built  in 1870

Yoshiki no Sato preserves some old houses that used to belong to rich families. They include the ones that used to be a clinic or a post and telegraph office. The experience program uses the kamado in one of these houses. It is the experience you can only have here in Hida area because Kamado is very rare these days.

Delicious Hida Beef and Local Dishes

Various dishes are served with the rice cooked in a kamado. They serve the highest grade Hida beef bought from the famous local meat shop and series of local dishes of Hida area using delicious food gathered from surrounding mountains. It is fun to imagine the lifestyle of the rich family who lived here in the old days while you eat lunch in a tatami room.

This program begins at 11:30 every day. It costs 6,000 yen per person. It can be held at night or at other times of the day on request, so please contact them in advance. The free shuttle bus service is available from JR Hida Furukawa station.
