In Kurashiki “Bikan Chiku,” an area that has a beautiful landscape and has a duty of preserving the scenic beauty, there is traditional Japanese architecture with white walls and black roof tiles which are part of a beautiful townscape which remains in harmony with willows and Kurashiki river. The town which has houses with lattice windows and storehouse is designated as Important Preservation District for Group of Traditional Buildings. Despite it being a cozy town where you can get around on foot, cultural facilities such as Ohara Museum of Art, the museum that has world-class artworks, Kurashiki Museum of Folkcraft, Kurashiki Archaeological Museum and stylish restaurants and shops made from old renovated houses are concentrated in this area. There are a lot of things to do including shopping at the folk craft shop which sells attractive items combining craftsman’s technique and modern taste.
