The Japanese industrialist established the museum for the education of Japanese artist. This is the first private Western modern art museum in Japan which has a collection of well-known works in the world. The museum is the symbol of Kurashiki Bikan Chiku where 40,000 people visit within and outside of Japan every year.

Kurashiki Museum of Folkcraft has 15,000 folk crafts from within and outside of Japan. In the three connected buildings, renovated rice-granary of Edo period, they exhibit 700 beautiful articles including pottery, lacquerware, combined tools made from wood and stones, and textiles. The shop on the first floor is free to enter. You can buy many adorable folk crafts including specialty of Kurashiki such as Kurashiki glasses and Bitchu Washi, Japanese paper.
