Koyagawa Bikan Chiku

Koya river, connected to Takahashi river, used to be the outside moat of Bitchu Matsuyama castle. This area is designated as Bikan Chiku, an area that has a beautiful landscape and has a duty of preserving the scenic beauty, and also among the “Top 100 Japanese Roads.” There are cherry blossom trees and willow trees on the river side which extend to the the city where there are elegant views including the oldest church in the prefecture “Takahashi Christian Church.” You can enjoy a tranquil atmosphere on the street with retro houses across the Koya river.

Takahashi Christian Church built in 1889 is the oldest remaining church in Okayama prefecture. This church is very valuable not only because you can learn the history of missionary work but also the wooden Western architecture in late 1800s.

Cherry blossoms site loved by citizens
