In addition to the charm of the Great Buddha itself, the surrounding nature gives it a seasonal charm. About 50 cherry blossom trees color the scenery around Buddha with soft pink flowers in spring. Autumn brings with it the warmth of red and yellow leaves as well the illuminations in mid-November. No matter when you go, you'll be greeted by the beauty of nature.

The Great Buddha is hollow and visitors can go inside it. You can study the casting seams and traces of reinforcement as a result of the maintenance conducted more than 30 times in its history. The two windows on its back were used to take out the dirt at the final stage of building the statue. (admission fee, 20 yen)

There are big straw sandals hung in the rest room in Kotoku-in. They were presented to Buddha from the children in Ibaraki prefecture with the message, “please stretch your legs sometimes.” One sandal is 180 cm×90 cm in size and weighs about 45 kg.

Kangetsu-do is a precious building which was originally built in Korean dynasty in 15th century and relocated and reconstructed at its present location. It houses the standing statue of Kannon Bosatsu considered to be built in the late Edo period.
