The highly transparent, emerald green ocean shimmers on top of the pure white sandy beach. This spot represents Taketomi Island's tourist spots and is as beautiful as a painting. With its mellow waves, it is perfect for swimming and also safe for children to play in the water. The color of the ocean changes slightly from the shoreline out, and shows different hues depending on the time. The beach faces west so you can see beautiful sunsets, and is a perfect leisure spot with toilets, free showers, and rentals of things like parasols during the summer.

Beautiful Shallow Water

Kondoi Beach is not only one of the top beaches in Taketomi but in all of Yaeyama region. It can be reached easily from Ishigaki's city center. From its great location you can also see Iriomote Island. It is often used as shooting locations for movies and TV commercials.

Perfect for Swimming

The place is perfect for swimming, as the waves are mellow. Because there are barely any waves, people of all ages can safely have a great time. The island itself has a very quiet and soothing atmosphere and because there are frequent buses, access to the beach is easy and convenient.

Abundant Marine Life: Swim Out to See Corals and Tropical Fish

At this beautiful beach, you can also encounter plenty of marine life. Out in the deeper water, there are even corals and tropical fish. You could encounter a 20-cm long sea cucumber, a newly shed mantis shrimp shell or witness a symbiosis between a snapping shrimp and a goby. See an interesting ecosystem from up close.
