Watatsumi Jinja is a shrine built atop the cliffs of Cape Ryuo in Katsurahama. People come to this shrine to pray for safety at sea, business success, and love endeavors. Regardless of all that, the views are incredible! The red of the shrine against the vast blue of the ocean is a beautiful sight not to be missed.

This realistic bronze statue of Sakamoto Ryoma is based on a famous historical photograph and it appears as if the man himself is standing before the sea. The statue stands upon a hill in Katsurahama gazing far out into the Pacific Ocean. Including the pedestal, the statue is 13.5 m tall. Inside of Katsurahama Aquarium are various sea animals that start with the rare, large and elusive “akame” snook fish found only around Kochi and Miyazaki prefectures, and include others like sea turtles, penguins, and river otters. Characteristic to the aquarium are its many events that get you close to the animals like feedings, etc.

“Ice Creen” is a special dessert that is a combination of ice cream and sherbet and has a simple taste. It’s also pretty healthy containing less than 3% butterfat. You can find a store near the beach and Ryoma statue. Just look for the red and white umbrellas.
