Kakegawa Castle

(Source : pixta)
Built in the late 15th century during the Sengoku period, several battles between people of power took place at this castle. Although the whole building including the castle tower was destroyed in the great earthquake of 1854, in 1994, it was rebuilt as the first wooden castle tower in Japan. Kakegawa "goden," a residence for people of high status and one of the only four remaining in Japan, is located in this castle and is registered as an important cultural property. During spring, many sakura trees bloom all around the castle and its surroundings.
