Jodogahama

Jodogahama in Rikuchu Kaigan National Park in Iwate is a top scenic spot representing the northern Tohoku region. This historic beach, which is said to have formed about 52 million years ago, has quiet waves and attracts many people during swimming season, and is a popular tourist spot that has become famous for being selected one of "Japan's 88 top swimming spots" and "Japan's top 100 ocean swimming spots." As a place once looked upon by Kenji Miyazawa, a famous author not only known in Japan but around the world, Jodogahama is one of the spots you should definitely visit when in Iwate.

Power Spot: Hachinohe-Ana

Hachinohe-ana, located near Jodogahama's levee, is also called "the blue cave." The emerald green and cobalt blue water surface unfolds inside the lake and changes color depending on the season and climate. It is said that your wish will come true upon entering this beautiful and surreal blue cave.

Miyako Jodogahama Cruise

It is also recommendable to utilize a cruise to explore Jodogahama. From "Miyako Jodogahama Cruise," which slowly goes around the top spots of Jodogahama, one can see views that are not visible from land. One of the amusements on board is to feed seagulls from the boat, with the seagull food sold on board called seagull bread.

Iwate Prefecture Fishery Science Aquarium Uoriyasu

Iwate Prefecture Fishery Science Aquarium Uoriyasu in Jodogahama was built in 1986 and is the first specialized museum in fishery. It is cherished as a small but well-made aquarium, where apart from displaying the history and techniques of Iwate's fishery, it houses a large variety of marine animals.
