Hiroshima Museum of Art

The museum opened in 1978 with “For Love and Peace” as its theme. Their art collection includes the works of French Modern artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and Marie Laurencin as well as about 300 Japanese Modern Art collections inspired by them. There is a café that serves great bread baked by a famous bakery along with a museum shop. This is an ideal environment to appreciate excellent artworks.

Collection of Modern Art both in France and Japan

Their main collection is of French Modern Art by impressionists and Japanese Modern Art. French Modern Art collection includes the works by world famous artists such as Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh and Cezanne. While Japanese Modern Art collection consists of works inspired by Western Culture and evolved uniquely.

Cafe Where You Can Eat the Sandwich by a Famous Bakery

The tearoom in the museum, “Café Jardin” serves some food including bread made by the famous bakery, Andersen and some sweets that are great for tea time. Enjoy some elegant time at the seats outside on a fine day.

Horse-Chestnut Tree Donated by Picasso’s Son

In the front yard of the museum planted a horse-chestnuts tree donated by Claude Picasso, one of the sons of Picasso. The tree blooms red flowers in the beginning of May every year. Visitors can also enjoy azalea in early summer and red and yellow maple leaves in autumn in this front yard.
