The Hara Museum ARC is a modern art museum located right next to the popular Ikaho Green Bokujo ranch in Gunma and is an annex of the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. On display inside of the museum are contemporary works of art from both within and beyond Japan after 1950 and national treasures as well as important cultural property registered traditional works of art from Japan and East Asia. Aside from the elaborate works inside of the museum, there are many other ways to connect with the modern art on display like the open-air green grass area where various works of art are placed about the grounds.

Giant sculpture made by French artist

In front of the museum is a giant, heart-shaped sculpture. This beautiful red glass sculpture is “Kokoro” (Heart) which is the work of the French modern artist, Jean Michele Othoniel. It’s possible to pass through the giant heart, so go ahead and jump through on your way into the museum.

Beautiful rainbows born from this work of art

One of the art structures located outside of the museum is called “Sunspace for Shibukawa” created by the Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson. Inside of the silver dome is a white screen which on sunny days projects a beautiful rainbow produced by the solar rays of the sun through prism lenses.
