On the banks of the Hida River, the river flows almost through the center of Gero Onsen, there is a famous open-air outdoor bath called Funsenchi. It is a spacious place without any fences where you can actually bathe. The bath is available 24 hours (except cleaning time) with some exceptions such when the weather is rough. Bathing suits are required for bathing in this bath.

Gero Onsen has three public baths that can be enjoyed for a reasonable fee: Shirasagi no Yu, Kua Garden Rotenburo, and Sachi no Yu. In addition, there are also eight foot baths such as Sagi no Ashiyu and Venus no Ashiyu scattered around town. It is great that you can enjoy onsen even when you are not staying at one of the hotels or inns.

The 1,200-yen onsen pass called “Yu-meguri Tegata” will allow you to access three onsen of your choice from about 30 onsen. The pass is available at Japanese inns, souvenir shops, the information center and some convenience stores.

”Gero Museum of Hot Springs” is a museum specializing in onsen, which is rare in Japan. It has about 400 articles documenting onsen such that visitors can learn about the mechanism and culture of hot springs in Japan. There is a foot bath and a walking bath where visitors can enjoy the hot water of Gero Onsen.

The morning market called Ideyu Morning Market is held in the Gero Onsen area from 8 am to 12 noon from the beginning of March to the end of November every year. There are various items such as local specialties, specialties of Gifu prefecture, fresh local vegetables and other products. Furthermore, Ideyu Night Market is held on Saturdays from the middle of July to the end of August.

Yuamiya serves the specialty Ontama Soft, soft ice cream topped with onsen egg made in Gero Onsen. Yuamiya also serves another specialty "onsen custard pudding" that uses the steam of Gero onsen to cook the custard. Give it a try while you stroll around the town.
