Gero Onsen

Gero Onsen, in Gero, Gifu, is a famous onsen (hot spring) considered to be one of the top three onsen in Japan along with Arima Onsen in Hyogo and Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma. Gero Onsen has a long history since it was discovered in 1265. The town flourished as an onsen area in the Edo period and has been attracting many people since then. The hot spring here is called “bihada-no-yu” (hot spring for beautiful skin) and is popular among women. Its alkaline hot spring removes dead skin cells and makes the skin smooth. Gero Onsen is a very popular sightseeing spot where you can try yu-meguri (visiting multiple onsen) and visit other spots to enjoy onsen.
