Geibikei

Geibikei is the first valley in the prefecture that was selected as a national scenic beauty. Through this 2-km-long valley with cliffs on both sides reaching over 50 meters and strange-looking rocks as well as waterfalls, the best way to sightsee is a relaxed boat tour on a row boat! In spring, when wisteria bloom along the steep cliffs, the Fujiiwa rock on the bank of the clear stream is a popular spot where the wisteria are most beautiful. The seasonal beauty can not only be enjoyed in spring but during the whole year, such as the young greens in summer and the changing leaves in autumn.

Boat Tour

The boat tour should not be missed when visiting Geibikei. As the valley of Geibikei is especially deep with steep cliff walls, the best way to appreciate the fascinating view is from a row boat. From December to February, a boat called "kotatsu-bune (kotatsu-boat)" is used, in which visitors can get under the Japanese heated blanket table and have this region's specialty hot pot while looking at the view.

Daigeibiiwa Rock

After about 30 minutes on the row boat, a tall flat rock of about 124 meters in height appears. In this rock called Daigeibi-iwa, there is a whole in one spot, into which you can try throwing "luck balls" and if you hit, your wish will supposedly come true.

Bishamon Cave

Giant rocks pile on top of each other in Geibikei. In one of those rocks, there is a 5-meter-wide and 30-meter-deep limestone cave called Bishamon Cave. Buddhist deity Bishamonten, a protector of fortune, is enshrined inside this cave and it has become one of Geibikei's power spots.
