Asa no Ha

(Source : )
There is a chic atmosphere and a feeling of kindness and caring in the traditional area of Azabujuban Shotengai (shopping street). Located on the street is Asa no Ha, whose display window is full of Japanese items. The shop has a large collection of Japanese tenugui (towels) depicting scenes from Kabuki plays and Kabuki actors because they have sold the towels at Kabuki-za (Kabuki theater) for more than 25 years. In the old days, Japanese people used tenugui in many situations in everyday life such as wiping, wrapping, and covering one's head. They are soft, useful, light and compact, so they can be wonderful items to take back home.

Particular Process from Patterns to Dyeing

Skilled artisans engrave designs similar to that of woodblock with prints depicting an original Japanese painting or Nanga (type of Japanese painting with roots in China). They dye the soft towels using a unique technique called chusen. A huge collection of elaborately crafted towels are displayed in the shop.
