Unazuki Onsen

Unazaki Onsen is the largest hot spring resort in Toyama which is situated near Kurobe Gorge. It is a great spot to have a relaxing time strolling around in a rich natural environment. The area around Unazuki Onsen station and along the Kurobe Gorge railway line is full of traditional Japanese inns, hotels and a hot spring bath “Tochino-yu” because it is used as a starting point to go to sightseeing spots in the Kurobe Gorge. Fireworks over the snow held every Saturday night during February and March annually is a precious event where you can see beautiful fireworks lighting up the snow-covered village.

The hot water in Unazuki Onsen is one of the clearest in Japan and good for skin. The hot spring produces 3000 tons of 87.8℃ water per day. It warms your body well and is said to be effective to cure rheumatism, motor organ disorder, and neuralgia.  It is well known as “the hot spring for skin beautification” and attracts a lot of women. The relaxing bath surrounded by the scenery of great nature will refresh your body and mind.

There is a symbol of this hot spring resort which is a hot spring fountain in front of Unazuki Onsen station. Although fountains usually gush out cold water, this unique hot spring fountain spurts out 60℃ hot water from the Kurobe Gorge Kuronagi Onsen.

Omokagebashi Observation Deck with an Eccentric Design

Omokagebashi observation deck in the hot spring resort is an observation deck with an eccentric design that juts out from a cliff wall of Kurobe River. It overlooks the hot spring resort and the beautiful view of the gorge that varies each season. It is one of the great viewing spots in Unazuki Onsen resort.

Great Viewing Spot: Yamabiko Observation Deck

Yamabiko Observation Deck is located within an easy walking distance from Unazuki Station. It provides a view of Shinyamabikobashi, the red-colored bridge against the green gorge. The view from this observation deck is often used in posters. Many people are seen taking pictures of the torokko trolley train as it passes over the bridge.

Rest after a Tiring Journey at Foot Bath Omokage

You can enjoy the foot bath in Unazuki Park which is located 5 minutes away from Unazuki Onsen station. Foot Bath Omokage has 40℃ hot spring water and a floor paved with natural pebbles of Kurobe River. It is a relaxing spot that warms your toes and eventually warms your whole body.

Kurobe Gorge Torokko Trolley Train

Kurobe Gorge torokko trolley train is recommended to explore around Unazuki Onsen resort. Its open carriage provides a beautiful scenery of Kurobe Gorge. You can fully enjoy a feeling of freedom in nature on its 20.1 km stretch from Unazuki to Keyakidaira. The best season to take the train is autumn when you can see beautiful autumn leaves.

Winter Wonderland in Unazuki Onsen: Fireworks over the Snow

Fireworks over the snow is a winter tradition in Unazuki Onsen. It is held every Saturday night during February and March every year. It is quite different from summer fireworks especially on snowy days. Unazuki Onsen’s Snow Carnival is also held during the same period.
