Situated in Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, Hyotanya is a long-standing restaurant, founded in 1951, specialized in fried prawn and cutlet. Founded more than 60 years ago, locals come to this restaurant to savor huge fried prawns! Although there are many restaurants serving normal size and extra large size fried prawns, the fried prawns served in this restaurant are big. They measure approx. 30 cm! Beside these amazing prawns, this restaurant serves a variety of Japanese dishes and Western dishes such as miso cutlet, Chinese noodles, hamburg, omelet and rice.

Since this restaurant specializes in fried prawns and cutlets, it fries them with breadcrumbs made from bread without crust and vegetable oil! The refined oil, called Shirashimeyu, is made of rapeseed and soy seed. Dishes fried in this oil will stay tasty after cooled down. On top of that, it doesn't feel heavy on the stomach after having them.

"Waragi fry" (1,700 yen) is a popular dish served with 30 cm long big fried prawns. Plump and sweet extra-thick natural black tiger prawns are opened and fried. Although it usually comes with homemade ponzu sauce, you can change it to miso based sauce made of famous miso of Nagoya called hatcho miso.
