Shimoda Aquarium

Shimoda Aquarium is in an inlet of Shimoda bay in southern Izu, one of the most beautiful parts of the Japanese coastline. An aquarium that coexists with nature, it emphasizes interaction with dolphins and offers a wide selection of programs from advanced activities like diving and swimming with dolphins to simpler things like interacting with them from land. Make sure to check the timings according to your stay so you can interact with the dolphins. On the aquarium ship "Aqua Dome Perry," there is a 600 ton fish tank representing the ocean of Izu in which you can see many different types of fish.

An Aquarium in a Natural Inlet

The reason why the dolphins at Shimoda Aquarium are so lively is because of the structure of this aquarium. The dolphins are trained and put on show in the natural inlet, so they can interact with humans while they are living freely in the ocean.
