Ryukyu-mura

Ryukyu-mura is a theme park situated at the resort, Onnason, located about 1 hour north of Naha airport. Inside the park, there are several old Okinawa's traditional folk houses, built more than 80 years ago. It is also chosen as national cultural property. On top of that, you can see Okinawa's traditional parade, "Michijune", in which you can hear the melody of sansen. It is an exciting event. There are various activities such as renting costumes or creating a statue of Okinawa's protector god, Shisa. It is a great touristic facility where you can relax while enjoying the culture of Okinawa.

Several old folk houses where you can see Okinawa's culture

In the old folk house area, you can see how Okinawa looked like 100 years ago. There are various buildings and places chosen as tangible cultural property, including normal folk houses, lord's houses and the place where festivals took place. Sometime you can hear the music played with Okinawa's instruments, sansen and drums, while you are visiting inside the park. You can also see how ancient people used to create sugar from sugar cane by carried by water buffalo.

The main event of Ryukyu-mura, "Michijune"

"Michijune" is an event where you can see various Okinawa's traditional parades all year long. You can see exciting shows of Okinawa's famous "Eisa" dance and Lion dance. There are shows at 10 o'clock and 16 o'clock everyday at the central open space. I recommend you to check it out!

Plenty of experience-based activities!

In Ryukyu-mura, there are various experience-based activities. You can rent costumes from Ryukyu kingdom. You can try Okinawa's traditional instrument, "sansen". In addition, you can create a hand-made Okinawa's seesa statue or cook Okinawa's home meal, "Sata andagi (sweet deep-fried bum)". It would be a great experience, so I hope you try it.
