This is a shrine located in the Tenman area near Osaka station. This shrine, which was built in 949 and has a history of over 1,000 years, is frequented by the people of Osaka as a shrine that worships the god of academics, Sugawara no Michizane. One of Japan's top three festivals, Tenjinsai, is held in July with over 1.2 million people visiting every year. Beautiful plum flowers bloom in spring, when you can enjoy a colorful landscape that will make you forget that you are in the middle of the city.

One of Japan's top three festivals, Tenjinsai, is held at Osaka Tenmangu during the two days of July 24th and 25th every year. At the end of this over 100-year-old festival, there is an impressive spectacle with over 100 boats and over 3,000 fireworks going up.

In early spring, beautiful plum blossoms can be seen in Osaka Tenmangu. There are 100 plum trees on the premises and "Tenma Tenjin Ume Matsuri (plum festival)" is held during blooming season, which bustles with many tourists.

Worship Show for Tourists

The Worship Show for Tourists is aimed at tourists, who can do a trial worship in the main hall. An official worship and a drum performance is displayed for about 10 minutes, so the traditional way of worship can be experienced up close. (Fee: 1,000 yen, reservation required)
