Uji is famous place for macha in Kyoto. In front of the Uji station, there is a well-established cafe, "Nakamura Tokichi Honten" founded in 1854. The building of the cafe used to be a tea factory. In fact, this charming building is chosen as the important cultural scenery of Uji. Sweets made of macha are very popular at this cafe, especially "Namacha Jelly". You can also have light meal in this restaurant, including "Cha soba" that contains macha in soba noodles. There are many amazing dishes and sweets that made of high quality matcha. You can also try grinding tea with stone mill and have freshly grind tea right after.

This cafe, filled with fresh smell of tea, used to be a tea factory. The pillars and beam of the building are the same pieces from the original building. A high ceiling creates a spacious space inside. From the window, you will see a well-maintained, beautiful Japanese garden outside, while having a delicious cup of tea.

The most popular sweet is "Namacha Jelly" (740 yen) with taste of matcha. Inside the cool container made of bamboo tree, there are matcha ice cream, macha jelly, shiratama (dumpling made of rice and flour) and anko (sweet red bean paste). The matcha jelly is firm like mochi. It is an amazing matcha sweet which has slightly bitter taste of green tea.
