Kujukushima Zoo and Botanical Garden Mori Kirara is the western-most zoo and botanical garden on mainland Japan located in the Saikai National Park. This park features rich nature containing 264 animals belonging to 65 breeds including Indian elephants, lions, bears and lesser panda bears. Since they hold events where you can pet animals, it’s recommended for families. This park is also a prime spot for people who love plants, because there are 21,000 plants in 1,200 breeds of subtropical plants and seasonal flowers including blooming roses.

Penguin house where you can see flying penguins

In this very popular Penguin house, they exhibit penguins in a unique way such as the water tank on the ceiling that covers an area of 80 square meters, one of the largest in Japan, a water tank with a depth of 4 meters and an extremely shallow tank where you can observe the penguin's soles. From the first floor to the third floor, you can observe penguins from all directions.

The first monkey zone that has gigantic monkey bars in the Kyushu area

Many types of monkeys live in the Monkey zone. One significant feature is the gigantic monkey bars for the gibbons, and this is the one in the Kyushu area. Seeing gibbons cross the monkey bars with ease is overwhelming. Adorable ring-tailed lemur, basking in the sun is also a must see.

The rose park of Kujukushima Zoo and Botanical Garden Mori Kirara has one of the largest surface areas in Western Japan. You can enjoy variety of kinds and colors of roses in spring and fall. Take your time and walk in the park with the fragrance of flowers.
