Kouri-jima is an island which is considered a part of Nakijin Village located off the coast in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa. In 2005, a 2-km long Kouri Bridge was built connecting Kouri-jima to the main island of Okinawa allowing access by car. This is the second longest toll-free bridge in all of Japan. Surrounding the island is Okinawa’s famous emerald blue sea and beautiful beaches with swimming areas that are always bustling with visitors. The perimeter of the island runs 8 km and is full of beautiful long walks. This is one special place to relax in Okinawa with interesting sights including old traditional houses, cafes, and a famous heart-shaped rock, all of which make for a trip that you definitely won't forget.

Kouri Bridge for an awesome drive

The Kouri Bridge is a 2 km bridge connecting Nakijin’s Kouri-jima and Nago City’s Yagaji-shima. Driving across will make you feel like you’re cruising across the surface of the ocean with the blue waves all around you. Another awesome part is that crossing the bridge is totally free.

Symbolic beautiful beach of Okinawa

Kouri Beach is well known as a popular tourist spot and symbolic beach of Okinawa for its cobalt blue waters and fantastic views. Spreading out in front of the entrance of the Kouri Bridge is this wonderful beach with remarkably clear water and is always thriving with visitors in summer.

Popular romantic spot: Heart Rock

One popular spot for couples is the famous Tinu Beach on Kouri-jima. Here, you can find a special heart-shaped rock appropriately called, "Heart Rock" which is said to bring good fortune to couples in love. Of course, the beach is also used as a swimming area.

Restaurants with beautiful views

Without a doubt, one of the greatest attractions of Kouri-jima is its vast amount of locations with beautiful views. On the island, you can find various cafes that allow one to enjoy these views to the max while slowly passing time relaxing. Many of these cafes are also perfect for just a quick little break as well.

Ocean House Yoshika Restaurant

Located above the entrance to Kouri-jima is the restaurant, Ocean House Yoshika. Here one can get sweeping views of the island from the 2F. The inside of the restaurant is handmade from wood and sea shells making for a tranquil atmosphere. So come by to enjoy a delicious meal while relaxing and looking out across the beautiful ocean and Kouri Bridge.
