Kaiji Beach, also called Hoshisuna no Hama (star-sand beach), is famous for having star-shaped sand on the beach. Press your hand against the sand and you will find tiny star-shaped grains of sand. The star sand is actually shells of an organism called forams and is also called sun sand, as the shape could also resemble the sun. Although swimming is generally not allowed, the beach has benches, driftwood and a store, and is a perfect place for taking a break while looking at the ocean. You could also relax in the shade and take a nap or read a book.

At Kaiji Beach, you cannot help but get caught up in looking for star-shaped sand. They are actually shells of forams and are officially called Baculogypsina. It is said that the star sand brings good luck to those who hold it.

Spend a Relaxing Time at the Beach

The ocean is beautifully transparent, and the beach is great for spending a relaxing time, as there are shades that make perfect spots for naps and reading, as well as benches that you can sit on. There are many cats around the beach and watching them lay around is quite soothing too. The souvenir store sells goods related to star-shaped sand.

Kondoi Beach and Emerald Green Ocean

The neighboring Kondoi Beach is the most famous beach on Taketomi Island. It has a shimmering white sand beach and clear emerald green water and is great for swimming, as the shallows continue until far out.
