Iriomote Island

(Source : )
The second biggest island after the Okinawa main island, Iriomote Island is located 40 minutes by ferry from Ishigaki Island. It has the biggest tropical jungle in Japan and is a place where nature still remains in its original form, including the natural monument Iriomote wild cat, Japanese mangroves and impressive waterfalls. Here, you can fully amuse yourself with nature both in the mountains and the ocean, in a different way from the other islands; for example with canoe and trekking or tours of crossing over to the nearby island of Yubujima on a water buffalo carriage.

Nature-Filled Scenery Covered by Tropical Jungle

Iriomote Island is so rich in nature, it is even called "the last piece of untouched territory" in Japan. Mangrove forests unfold along Urauchi river, the longest in Okinawa, and Nakama river, where you will see mysterious plants and animals. If you're lucky, you may even encounter the special natural monument Iriomote wild cat!?

Mini Island Sightseeing on a Water Buffalo Carriage

A popular tour is crossing over on a water buffalo carriage to Yubujima, a small island with a perimeter of about 2 km at about 400 meters from Iriomote. The whole island is a designated tropical botanical park and it's definitely worthy to see all the tropical flowers blossoming. You can take a relaxed ride on the water buffalo carriage.

Wide Choice of Nature Experience Tours

There is a wide offer of activity tours to enjoy the great nature. On a typical canoe tour, you will trek along the river and mangrove forest and even dip into the waterfalls on the upstream. Surely you will find your favorite tour.

So Many Highlights! Biggest Waterfall in Okinawa

There are so many highlights inside the tropical jungle of Iriomote. If you participate in a jungle cruise, you will get to see Okinawa's biggest water fall Pinaisara Falls or Mayagusuku Falls with a beautiful stream.
