Ikaho Ropeway

Ikaho Ropeway in Shibukawa, Gunma, is a ropeway that connects Hototogisu Station located in one of Japan's top onsen districts Ikaho Onsen, and Miharashi Station, located on Mt. Monokiki at 932 meters elevation. As a place to enjoy the beautiful scenery, Mt. Monokiki was selected as one of Ikaho Hakkei (eight scenic beauties of Ikaho) and has so many highlights! At the summit, where there are observation decks and forest parks, you can take in the nature and enjoy the great views at the same time. From the summit, there is also a path that leads to Ikaho Shrine, a power spot believed to be inhabited by the god of childbirth, so we recommend you to take a walk combined with your visit!

Take a Trip Through the Air Over the Ikaho Onsen Town

Ikaho Ropeway connects the 499 meters between Hototogisu Station in the Ikaho Onsen district and Miharashi Station on Mt. Monokiki. The ride is quite short at about four minutes; however, you get to enjoy a trip through the air while looking upon the onsen town that unfolds underneath. It is open throughout the year and departs every 10-15 minutes.

Observation Deck Overlooking Ikaho Onsen

Around Miharashi Station, there are many highlights such as Tokimeki Deck ("heart-struck" deck) and Ikaho Shinrin-Koen (Ikaho Forest Park) with an impressively large area. Aside from the great views on one of Japan's top 100 mountains Mt. Akagi and Mt. Tanikawa, from the top recommended Tokimeki Deck, during the extended night hours of the ropeway every March, you can see the shimmering night view of Ikaho and surroundings, as well as the beautiful night sky.

Ikaho Shrine is where the god of childbirth is worshiped and is constantly filled with visitors who pray to be blessed with children. Another highlight of Ikaho Shrine is definitely the stairs with 365 steps! This staircase leading up to the shrine and is also known as a power spot and is believed to bring you good fortune if you manage to climb up all the steps.
