Hanamaki Onsen Rose Garden

Hanamaki Onsen Rose Garden, located in the famous hot springs of Iwate prefecture Hanamaki Onsen, is the popular garden that has 6,000 roses from around the world in its extensive area. Various roses including old historical breeds and selective breeds of this garden decorate the park. Beautiful roses can be enjoyed until the end of November at the flower bed outside and year around in the green house. They also have seasonal flowers such as tulips, begonia and marigold.

Standard breeds such as English rose and Old rose to original breeds of Hanamaki Onsen Rose Garden bloom on the flower beds in the garden. You can see the roses outside from the end of May to the beginning of November and in the green house, roses can be enjoyed all year round.

Historical flowered sundial

At the bottom of the garden, there is a flowered sundial surrounded by adorable roses. This sundial was designed by Miyazawa Kenji, the famous author of fairy tales who was born in Hanamaki city. The main rose of the sundial is called “Gruss an Teplitz”, loved by Miyazawa Kenji.

50th anniversary flower bed

Anniversary Garden located outside was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the garden and you can see more than 280 roses of 70 breeds. They have not only colorful roses but also many aromatic roses so take your time to enjoy the fragrance while you walk around.

Gorgeous time in the rose bath

In the public bath for women of Hotel Senshu-Kaku in Hanamaki Onsen, Rose Bath can be enjoyed from 14:00-21:30 everyday. It is said the fragrance of roses is effective for reducing stress and recovery from fatigue, so you can have a relaxing time surrounded by colorful flowers.

Popular event: Rose Festival

In the garden, Rose Festival is held from the end of May to the beginning of July when roses are in bloom. During the festival, you can enjoy not only beautiful roses but also so the many fun events such as concerts and young rose selling which is one of the largest in Tohoku area.
