Hakone Ropeway

Hakone Ropeway runs above the mountains of Hakone. It departs at Sounzan station whichi is at an elevation of 761 meters and reaches the highest point at an elevation of 1044 meters at the next station, Owakudani station. Then it goes through Ubako Station surrounded by plenty of greenery and finally arrives at the last stop, Togendai station where you can look down at Lake Ashi. Since the ropeway runs about 130 meters above the ground, you can see the mountains and the town of Hakone from the view point that only a ropeway can offer. The scenery from the ropeway is beautiful especially in October and November when the leaves changes their colors into red and yellow.

360-degree View !

Let's get on the gondola at Soundai station. It has glass-paned windows on all four sides so that all the passengers can enjoy the scenery. The scenes change as the ropeway runs through and you can't miss the scenic beauty of mountains and the town of Hakone with this 360-degree view.

Mt. Fuji

There is a special view point of Mt. Fuji between Gora station and Ubako station. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Fuji in front of your eyes. Mt. Fuji looks bigger when you look at it from the ropeway and it makes the ropeway even more appealing.

Owakudani

From Owakudani station, Owakudani, a volcanic crater can still be seen steaming. This mountain erupted about 3000 years ago and the volcano is still active. The view of white steam shooting out from the crater is magnificent!

Lake Ashi

Lake Ashi shows itself on the way to the terminal station, Togendai station. It reflects the sparkling sun light on sunny days and looks very beautiful. Lake Ashi also looks spectacular during sunset in the evening.

About 70 minutes on Hakone Tozan Railway and cable car from Odawara station; about 30 minutes on Izu-Hakone railway route bus bound for Kojiri from Hakone-yumoto station. Get off at Sounzan station.
