(Source : 食べログ)
Just a two-minute walk from JR Hakodate station is the Ajidokoro Kikuyo Shokudo, an old restaurant established in 1956. When it was opened, it was a small restaurant with about 10 seats, and it was mostly those who visited the Hakodate Morning Market who would come and go. However, the restaurant became known for being able to taste exquisite gourmet masterpieces using fresh seafood at a reasonable price, and now it has become so popular it is said that if you want to eat Kaisen-don in Hakodate, then here is the place to do it! Due to its popularity, a branch with more seats was opened about a 30-second walk from the main shop. Here, you can taste their special Kaisen-don inside a spacious store.

Very special food!

The rice brand, Yumepirika, comes from the highest peak of Hokkaido and is cooked by being steamed in an iron pot over charcoal. The variety of seafood, meat and vegetables is also based upon local production and consumption, using ingredients handpicked from Hokkaido.

Hakodate's Morning Market speciality

The recommended special is Tomoe Don (1,680 yen), which uses sea urchins, salmon roe and scallops caught from the nearby ocean piled so high that you can’t see the rice! This popular dish allows people to try rich, sweet sea urchin, large-grain salmon roe and meaty scallops all at once, and is said to be the first Kaisen-don of Hakodate, invented roughly 30 years ago.

Original Kaisen Don

The Goshu Okonomi Don (2,100 yen) is also highly popular, allowing customers to choose 5 varieties of seafood such as sea urchins, eel or prawn, to create their own original Kaisen-don. After making the journey all the way to Hokkaido, this particular dish will answer your wish to keep on eating all the different types of fresh seafood available.
