The Bay Area is a bustling business district by the sea where you can enjoy shopping and delicious food. The architectural style of the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses here is very similar to the red brick warehouses in Yokohama.
Eating delicious food while enjoying the sea breeze and seeing architectural marvels is the best way to spend in Hakodate. Even the Starbucks cafe in this area is built such that it blends with the surrounding buildings.
Of the many restaurants in the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse area, we have two recommendations. The first one is Lucky Pierrot, which is known for its juicy burgers.
Lucky Pierrot's signature hamburger has won the best hamburger award in Japan, and it's no exaggeration to call it Hakodate's signature dish.
At the entrance, a statue of a clown greets every visitor, and once you enter the shop, you can see a giant replica of the iconic hamburger.
We ordered the most popular item, the Chinese Chicken Burger set.
These hamburgers are quite generous in terms of size and fillings.
The french fries are crispy and crunchy. Nothing beats a good burger and chips!
One of the reasons this iconic hamburger is so popular is that it contains their signature fried chicken.
Other than burgers, there are many other items on the menu. With seats by the sea, you can enjoy your meal gazing out at the beauty of the water.
You can also pick up souvenirs here!
Our second recommendation in the area is Kikuyo Shokudo (きくよ食堂).
This restaurant offers traditional Japanese dishes made using ingredients, especially seafood, of the highest quality.
The restaurant is famous for its fresh and delicious kaisen-donburi (rice topped with raw seafood).
You can choose the size of your donburi bowl. If you don't eat too much, you can order a mini-don.
Can you believe how amazing these bowls are? Bet you're salivating just looking at these photos!
Whether you like sea urchin, salmon roe, scallops, crabs or prawns, you won't be disappointed in terms of freshness or flavor.
Topped generously, the smooth sea urchin, sweet scallop, crispy shrimp head and salty salmon roe will leave you wanting more.
Hakodate is a very beautiful port city and can be charming both during the day and at night with a chance to enjoy some unique Japanese architecture and delicious Japanese food.
If you have the opportunity to visit Hokkaido, make sure to include Hakodate in your plans.
