Tokyo's first snow of 2022

Many of you may know that it rarely snows in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, even in winter. On January 6th, it snowed in Tokyo after a long time. To give you a glimpse of Tokyo covered in snow, keep reading this article to see how the city transforms into a winter wonderland.

It started snowing around 13:00 on January 6th. Even if it snows in Tokyo, it usually melts as soon as it touches the ground. However, this time, there was quite a lot of snow that gradually accumulated.

This photo was taken around 18:00 on January 6th in Jimbocho, which is crowded with office workers. Since most Tokyoites aren't used to walking on snow, everyone treads cautiously so as not to slip.

Someone tried to make a mini snowman!

It snowed for about six and a half hours in Tokyo which is not at all common.

The traffic lights were also covered in snow,

and so was the road.

It's been a while since it snowed with this magnitude in Tokyo, so there were many warnings in the news to watch out for snow.

Everything looks gorgeous in the snow, even a bike.

There was also snow on the statue of Hachiko at Shibuya Station. In fact, it may have been like this when Hachiko was waiting for his master in winter.

Winter illuminations are still going on in Tokyo giving us a beautiful sight of the snow & illuminations. Doesn't it seem like a perfect time for a romantic date?

As the snow piles up, the atmosphere changes quite drastically. There was snow on the way from Shibuya to Yoyogi Park.

Yoyogi Park, known to be a great spot for nature lovers, takes on a different charm in the snow.

At first glance, it might seem hard to believe that it is even Yoyogi Park.

The withered trees had snow piling on the dainty branches. Such a beautiful, calming sight!

The crescent-shaped moon only added to the romance. The light from the street lamps made it seem like cherry blossoms were in full bloom.

When it snows in Tokyo, the city is transformed into something different from the usual hustle and bustle.

Cyclists will probably won't be too happy about all the snow.

Yoyogi is where you an enjoy the beauty of all seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. Luckily, it snowed this year for us to truly enjoy its glory in winter.

Snow seemed to have piled up more than 10 cm, which has happened after a long time.

Even though it had stopped snowing, there was still snow the next day as the temperatures were quite low.

This meant that there were delays on public transport but commuters were well aware of this. Everyone seems to leave earlier than necessary on days like this.

Hopefully it snows again this year in the city. Even though you can't visit right now, please enjoy looking at photos and reading about Japan.
