The reason why they released the forecast early is that this year's winter is much warmer than last year, so cherry blossoms are predicted to bloom earlier this year; probably around a week to 10 days earlier.
The first forecast for this year is as follows:
City | Flowering | Full bloom |
Sapporo | 5/1 | 5/5 |
Sendai | 4/7 | 4/12 |
Tokyo | 3/19 | 3/27 |
Kanazawa | 4/1 | 4/7 |
Nagoya | 3/21 | 3/30 |
Kyoto | 3/23 | 4/1 |
Osaka | 3/25 | 4/1 |
Kochi | 3/19 | 3/27 |
Fukuoka | 3/20 | 3/29 |
Kagoshima | 3/25 | 4/5 |
Since this year's winter is much warmer and shorter than last year, the cherry blossoms will bloom much earlier this year. Make sure to plan your trip based on the most recent forecast if you want to see these beautiful flowers!
