Pop of pink: Shibazakura in Tokyo

When you think of moss phlox, most people are probably familiar with photos of moss phlox covered hills with Mt. Fuji in the background.
However, you can even enjoy these pretty pink flowers in Tokyo by the Arakawa river in Kita-ku (ward).
The Arakawa acts as a border between Saitama and Tokyo.
One section of the river called Akabane Sakura Tsutsumi is covered in shibazakura (moss phlox) with cherry blossoms of the Somei Yoshino variety crowning the slopes.
The white flowers dotting the area spell out KITA CITY (ward).
The cherry blossoms can be seen only till early April but a total of 64,000 moss phlox flowers bloom at once and you can enjoy this sight till early May.
The magenta pink of the moss phlox and the understated pink of the cherry blossoms are a wonderful contrast!
You can even see it from the train as you cross the Arakawa river. The faint pink of cherry blossoms will soon turn to fresh green!

The Akabane Sakura Tsutsumi is about a 15-minute walk from Akabane Station, which is served by the Keihin Tohoku Line, Saikyo Line, Shonan Shinjuku Line and the Takasaki Line.
