Have you been to a cafe where you can meet animals? We have previously introduced a mame shiba (dog) cafe too! In this feature, we introduce mipig cafe, where you can meet the first micro pigs in Japan!
The micro pig is a miniature pig bred in England. The new 'mipig cafe' in Meguro, Tokyo, is a cafe where you can meet and play with a micro pig.
Micro pigs born and raised in Yamanashi Prefecture are brought to this cafe in Tokyo: a four-story cafe that is warm and cozy.
The basic rate is 800 yen (tax excluded) for 30 minutes, 500 yen (tax excluded) for a 30-minute extension; both include more than one drink per person.
One to two hours are ideal to familiarize yourself with these bundles of furriness.
What to do when you meet a cute micro pig:
● Please pat it gently without seeing straight into its eyes.
● If you bring your fingers close to its mouth, it can mistake your fingers for food. So please pat it with your palm.
● Brush its hair.
● Do not use flash when taking pictures.
Do you know of dangerous infectious diseases related to pigs?
Hog cholera or classical swine fever is a highly contagious disease of swine. It does not infect humans but it highly dangerous for pigs. It is said that even if a single pig at a livestock farm is affected by this disease, you need to euthanize all pigs...
Therefore, if you've been to China two weeks prior to your visit to Japan, you may not be allowed to enter the cafe for the safety of the pigs. Thank you for your understanding.
Some people think that micro pigs don't very big but that's not the case. They can grow up to be as big as a Shiba Dog. On the third floor of the cafe, you can see one of the bigger pigs.
